By the end of December we all have one basic thing in common: we are exhausted from the hustle and bustle of the holidays and all look forward to starting a clean slate with the new year. We as Americans tend to make resolutions every year ranging from taking up a new hobby to losing weight. The new year also represents the engagement season and a renewed optimism for love and happiness!
What better way to toast the new year and all it might bring….Champagne! Here are some interesting facts about Champagne and Champagne corks:
Have you ever thought about who invented the Champagne cork? A French monk named Dom Perignon is credited with the invention when he discovered that cork could seal the fizz and flavor of Champagne after he saw the Spanish using pieces of tree bark to plug their water gourds for their traveling.
Dom Perignon and his name is still associated with Champagne.
In the 17th century, wine cellar workers would wedge corks in the Champagne bottles by hand and sometimes the corks would erupt without warning and put out a worker’s eye, giving Champagne the nickname “Devil’s Wine”.
Today’s Champagne corks are made out of cork bits, glue and food-grade silicion. They start out as marshmallows and then are compressed and driven into the bottle neck of the Champagne and held down with a muselet (wire hood).
If you open a bottle of Champagne and it makes a loud pop, it has not been chilled to 50 degrees. A Champagne cork will ease out of the bottle neck much quieter if the Champagne has been chilled properly.
Happy New Year!!

Yum Yum! Who doesn’t love cupcakes? We know it’s Winter time, but we thought we would write about something totally different! We are loving these suspended cupcakes! It is an unsual way to have your dessert buffet. Would you try it? We are thinking maybe it would look pretty cool suspended from a low ceiling indoors!!!

The weather is stormy outside and we love staying indoors this time of year and looking at cute DIY ideas for our clients. Why not give your guests plantable succulents! Succulents are easy plants to grow because they are drought resistant and can withstand colder climates better than some other plants. We like these easy DIY succulent wedding favors which can double as place cards too. The succulents were placed in tea cups that can be gathered from thrift stores, flea markets, garage and estate sales. The more you mismatch them, the better!

Here is another example of what you can do with succulents. They are great for decorating and the possibilites are endless. Check out these succulents in cigar boxes. What is there not to love about these?
